Is your business offering in the bargain bin?

Do you discount in your business? Do you believe in giving your products/services away for free?

In last week’s post, we looked at daily deals and if businesses can really benefit from listing their products/services on them – particularly when the deals are brought down to be so discounted that you should not treat them as a new revenue stream. So what about giving away freebies (such as free consulting sessions) or discounting your services? Is it a bad idea or will it benefit your business?

One school of thought says that freebies and discounts:

  • devalue or cheapen your services
  • attract freeloaders and tire-kickers
  • reduce your profit
  • make it difficult to charge full-price.

Fair enough. But is this always the case?
